MURFREESBORO – Webb School of Knoxville’s tennis teams added three more state championship plaques to the trophy case Friday.
Junior Audrey Yoon won the Division II-A singles championship with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Addison Horton of Silverdale Baptist Academy in the final at Old Fort Park’s Adams Tennis Complex.
Webb’s other two state titles were by doubles teams with senior Caroline Ross and junior Carina Dagotto clinching the girls championship and junior Harrison Williams and senior Ben Aikens winning the boys title.
Ross and Dagotto defeated Webb teammates Lili Roth and Delaney Bone, 6-0, 6-0, in the final. Bone is a freshman and Roth a sophomore.
Aikens and Williams saw familiar faces across the net in the final, beating Christian Academy of Knoxville seniors Davis Brady and Cole McDaniel, 6-2, 6-0. Aikens and Williams also beat the CAK team in the region tournament by a similar score.
Williams was state runner-up in singles last year, and this season opted to play doubles with senior Ohm Sharma in the postseason singles draws.
Sharma lost in Thursday’s state semifinals to Christ Presbyterian Academy sophomore Nathan Irwin, who also beat Williams in the 2018 final.
Yoon’s singles victory came almost a year to the day after her sister, Lauren, won the state singles title as a senior at Webb.
Lauren Yoon just completed her freshman year at Emory University, where she plays on the tennis team.
Audrey Yoon played No. 1 singles this spring as the Lady Spartans clinched their state-record 10th consecutive state team championship and their 16th overall, also a state record.
Sharma played No. 1 singles and Williams No. 2 this season when the Spartans won their third straight state team title and the program’s eighth overall.
