Few teams in the 5Star Preps coverage area were hit as hard by graduation as Anderson County.
But the good news, according to Mavericks coach Davey Gillum, is that the legacies of players like Stanton Martin, Ryan Moog, Michael Carroll and Trey Noe are being carried on.
“Those guys we lost, most of them played for us for four years, and five or six of them started since they were freshmen,” said Gillum.
“The amount of game reps that group took is irreplaceable. On a plus note, they helped us raise the program to another level in terms of accountability and work ethic.”
Although AC returns just four starters on defense and two on offense, Gillum expects the high standard of expectations and performance to continue.
Anderson County was 24-2 the last two seasons with both losses coming against eventual state champion Greeneville in the 4A quarterfinals.
“Their (the 2018 seniors) character will live on,” said Gillum.
“This team still expects to win and they’re working extremely hard.”
Here’s a look at some of the players – both heralded and floating under the radar – that Anderson County needs to have big years from in 2019.
