Derrell Bailey, the 6-foot-6, 260-pound lineman from Greenback, put a punctuation on his recruitment this weekend.
The three-star prospect who garnered more than 30 scholarship offers gave his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech via a social media video produced by 5Star Preps.
Virginia actually offered Bailey first, doing so on Feb. 4. And the Cavaliers got the first official visit of Bailey’s five.
From there, the influx of scholarships avalanched into Bailey being one of the hottest recruits in the state. He picked up offers from some of the premier teams of the SEC, ACC, Pac-12 and Big-12.
Virginia Tech was the 30th school to offer when they extended their scholarship offer on May 16.
He narrowed his list to 12 in early June, and that dozen included: Oregon, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Florida, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Purdue, Oklahoma and Florida.
LSU became a player in the end, too. But Bailey visited Virginia Tech this weekend and his mind was made up.
Tennessee never officially offered but did talk with Bailey.
