ALCOA – Absence couldn’t make Holden Willis’ heart grow any fonder of football, no way.
“It’s hard to love the game, much more than I do already,” Greenback High’s senior wide receiver said Friday night, after the Cherokees finished their final regular season dress rehearsal in the Blount County Jamboree at Alcoa High.
Willis’ breakup with the sport was relatively short in duration. But it was painful in nature with the 6-foot-4 200-pounder suffering a fracture collarbone. The timing hurt as well, since the injury occurred in the second round of the Class A state playoffs. Greenback eventually lost in the semifinals.
