OAK RIDGE — A matchup of two of the area’s top girls’ soccer programs turned out to be heavily one-sided Tuesday night.
Bearden marched into Oak Ridge, won 6-1 and told those in Class AAA just where it stands heading into next week’s postseason.
And that message: Bearden isn’t just ready to get back to the state tournament, it’s ready to improve on last year’s state semifinal appearance.
The Lady Bulldogs, who are 14-2-1 this season and winners of District 2-AAA, led 4-1 at half Tuesday thanks to goals from Hailey Cartt, Alex Smith, Sarah Altshuler and Gabby Wilkinson. Becca Roth assisted on the third and fourth goals.
Maddie Peters’ goal in the 39th minute did little to reverse momentum in Oak Ridge’s favor, as the District 3-AAA champion Lady Wildcats (13-3-0) surrendered goals to Brinley Murphy and Abby Brewer after intermission.
