SEYMOUR – The King’s Academy basketball teams have been generating buzz heading into the season’s start.
The Lady Lions made it to the Division II-A state quarterfinals a season ago and return the program’s all-time leading scorer: sophomore Jennifer Sullivan, who has a plethora of Division I offers already.
And while the Lions only won four games a year ago, their lineup has drastically changed for the better.
Both TKA squads notched wins over visiting Gibbs on Thursday night. The Lady Lions won 68-9, behind 14 points apiece from Bailey Burgess and Jenna Timmerman. Sullivan added eight points and seven assists.
The TKA boys won 67-53 behind a game-high 23 points from new point guard Micky Jean-Philippe, a 6-1 senior from Belgium. Last year’s stars for TKA returned, and Nemanja Kovacevic and Zack Tilley had 13 and 11 points, respectively in the win over Gibbs. And 7-foot newcomer Aingar William, a native of Chad, Africa, had eight points in the win.
