BOYS BKB: Carpenters Middle vs. Whittle Springs Middle
The Whittle Springs Middle School basketball team’s historic season got a little scare Monday.
The unbeaten Warriors trailed Carpenters Middle (Maryville, Tenn.) by six points with 1 minute, 35 seconds to play.
But Whittle Springs (26-0) rallied to win in regulation, 41-37, and advance to Tuesday’s sectional finals against West Valley Middle School. The winner will advance to the state tournament.
Whittle Springs outscored Carpenters, 21-11, in the final quarter to complete the comeback. Tyler Lee led WSMS with 16 points, seven of which came in the fourth. Taj Kimber scored 10 of his 13 in the second half. Denaj Kimber scored all nine of his points in the second half.
Grady Robertson led all scorers, logging 22 points for Carpenters Middle, which enjoyed its best run in program history. Caden Windle added 12.
