Heritage High School announced the hiring of veteran boys’ basketball coach Dennis Godfrey on Tuesday afternoon.
Godfrey’s most recent stop was at Lenoir City, where he coached the boys program for two seasons.
He replaces Neal Leatherwood, who resigned in June after just one season at the helm.
Godfrey could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon and did not immediately respond to text message seeking comment. He requested interview time with 5Star Preps for Wednesday by text message Tuesday night.
His coaching career spans 35 years and includes a stint at Carter.
“We are excited that Coach Godfrey has accepted our offer and look forward to building a strong Heritage basketball program with him,” said athletics director Robbie Bennett in a press release. “Coach Godfrey has a proven track record of success and a culmination of skills sets that will make our program stronger.”
