It seems like forever since we’ve had softball.
COVID-19 wiped out the 2020 season, robbing area teams Jefferson County and The King’s Academy of the opportunities to defend their 2019 state championships.
The lost season leaves many coaches and teams scrambling for personnel answers as the 2021 campaign opens on Monday.
Despite the questions, softball looks as strong as ever in the 5Star Preps coverage area.
That’s particularly true in the highest classification as East Tennessee goes for its fourth consecutive state championship in Class AAA. The division looks as loaded as ever with Farragut, Powell, Jefferson County and others expected to battle it out to get to Murfreesboro in May.
“To me, the state (AAA) title stays in East Tennessee,” said Jefferson County coach Hillary Love.
We’ll find out in a couple of months.
Play ball … finally.
