LOUDON – All the endless hours of hard work have paid off for Olivia Underwood.
The senior catcher at Sequoyah High School will play college softball for her dream school, the University of Tennessee.
First, Underwood wants to help the Lady Chiefs make history as the first softball team at Sequoyah to reach the state tournament.
“We have enough talent and enough pitchers to go as far as we want,” Underwood said after Monday’s 12-1 victory over Loudon in five innings.
Underwood is the centerpiece of the Lady Chiefs’ team.
No surprise there.
Sequoyah coach Allen Roberts knew Underwood was a special talent a long time ago.
“I can remember her standing in there and her shin guards were bigger than she was,” Roberts said. “She’s worked hard and her family’s worked hard. Her dad (Daryl) has put in a lot of time and worked hard.”
A TWO-SPORT STANDOUT
Daryl and his wife, Candace Underwood, didn’t force Olivia into softball.
