The Alcoa High School boys’ golf team will have a chance to repeat next week, while the L&N Stem Academy will have a chance to secure its first title.
The Tornadoes won the Region 2 – Small Class Tournament on Monday at Sevierville Golf Club with a four-man total of 43-over 331. Braedon Wear led Alcoa and won medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73. Gabe Hunter pitched in a 77 to help claim the region crown. Peyton McGill (89) and Bryce Barber (92) rounded out the scoring for the Tornadoes.
Gatlinburg-Pittman (342) and Kingston (351) finished second and third, respectively, in the six-team field.
On the girls’ side, Madilyn Newman earned medalist honors with a 74. She and Emma Patterson (95) combined to shoot 169 to earn the region championship by 33 shots over runner-up Greenback (202) and third-place Pigeon Forge (227).
Jordan Bouyoucas of Pigeon Forge shot 88 and Campbell Penland of Northview shot 95 to each earn an individual berth in next week’s state tournament.
Aaron Johns of Gatlinburg-Pittman carded a 75 and Nathaniel Vaughan of Pigeon Forge an 82 to qualify for state as individuals.
