Austin-East didn’t get a soccer win Tuesday at Webb School of Knoxville, but it didn’t put a damper on the Roadrunners’ season moving forward.
Senior midfielder Spencer Bernard had two goals and an assist as the Spartans (1-0) notched a 3-1 victory over Austin-East (1-1) in a matchup of defending state champions.
Webb went 20-0 last year and won the Division II-A state title, while A-E finished 15-2-1 after winning the Class A state championship.
Austin-East returns seven starters from the 2021 team, and Webb returns eight starters.
