CLINTON — They came early to the stadium Friday, draping blankets over bleachers to reserve their seats.
They came in droves an hour before kickoff, packing the stands and crowding the standing-room only areas on sidelines and end zones.
They watched the host school, Anderson County, shoot off enough pregame fireworks to shame a Boomsday show.
But the thousands of fans who came to this Class 4A state quarterfinal expecting to see another indelible finish didn’t get the nail biter of an encore that they hoped would top last year’s Anderson County/Greeneville Classic.
They got a blowout.
