Thanks in large part to a large and talent-laden junior class, the football futures are trending up for Gatlinburg-Pittman heading into the 2022 high school season.
Second-year coach Brad Waggoner said the Highlanders are more than capable of bettering last season’s 7-5 record.
“I think we’ve got some team goals and I think we could be special,” said Waggoner.
“Even though this is a predominately junior team, they’ve got a chance to make some noise.”
Waggoner said the best thing about last season’s sophomores is they’re now juniors.
G-P has 18 juniors, with many in feature roles this season.
“We were really young last year,” he said.
“We’re going to be really young again, but we’ve got a lot of kids who have played a lot of football now.”
