For a football program like the Maryville High School football program, state semifinal appearances aren’t enough.
The Rebels are tied with Alcoa for all-time state titles in TSSAA history with 16.
It’s championship or bust in Blount County.
What’s more, Maryville was the defending state champion in Class 6A heading into Friday night’s tilt at Oakland and looking for more.
But for the second time in three years, Oakland eliminated Maryville in the state semifinals.
And this time, it wasn’t even close.
