OAK RIDGE — The six turnovers Greeneville forced Friday night in a 49-13 win at Oak Ridge didn’t happen by accident.
The Greene Devils are a championship program and so they leave nothing to chance.
They devote a large chunk of their practice time on Wednesdays to turnover development.
And while that doesn’t always yield four fumbles and two interceptions like what transpired Friday, Greeneville’s defense still has been highly productive in the turnover margins game all season.
“The things we’re working on in practice are really unfolding during the game. We spend a lot of time doing turnover circuits on Wednesday during practice,” said Greenville third-year coach Eddie Spradlen. “Every Wednesday is our turnover day. And we spend a lot of time on it.
“I believe my radio guy told me after the game that we’re plus-20 on turnovers for the season. We put a lot of emphasis on that, and it’s paying off on Friday nights.”
No doubt.
