J’Coryan Anderson’s college commitment had nothing to do with his linebacking peer Deshawn Page’s announcement on Tuesday.
But he thought it was cool that they both picked the same school.
“It was a separate decision,” said Anderson, “but it was pretty cool when I found out he committed there, too.”
Anderson, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker from Fulton, announced on Twitter on Thursday that he will sign to play for Marshall University during the early signing period — and mid-term enroll there.
Anderson had roughly 25 offers and narrowed those offers to eight on Aug. 3. Those eight were: Colorado State, Western Kentucky, Appalachian State, Tulane, Texas-San Antonio, MTSU, Kent State and Marshall.
Ultimately, though, he selected Marshall over Appalachian State and Tulane.
“I loved the coaches and the atmosphere of the school,” said Anderson, who took an official recruiting visit Marshall two weeks ago.
Academics matter, too, in Anderson’s life at the encouragement of his parents. His father, Cory, played football at Austin-East and Tennessee.
J’Coryan Anderson will graduate Fulton with a 3.8 GPA. On the field, he had 60 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss for the Falcons (10-2).
“My parents, they were always on me to get my school work done,” said Anderson. “So I just found a way to get it done.”
Ending the recruiting process was a relief, Anderson said.
“It was crazy. It’s a big crazy thing. You just don’t know what to do sometimes. But I’m glad I got it off my shoulders.”
