MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Maryville heard the naysayers on the outside.
After the Rebels lost three games during the regular season, including their first region loss in 22 years at the hands of Cleveland back in September, they knew the doubt was out there.
“I told our guys this has been a tough year,” Maryville coach Derek Hunt said Friday night.
“It’s been hard. You couldn’t help but hear all the critics talk about, ‘Hey, Maryville may not even make it to Round 2, Round 3, let alone the semis. That streak is going to be gone, too.’
“Even Maryville people,” Hunt added. “That’s what’s hard. That’s what’s tough.”
“But these Rebels are proving to be tougher than many gave them credit for.
