Grace Christian senior point guard and Division I signee C.J. Gettelfinger underwent “successful surgery on his fractured right (non-shooting) wrist yesterday afternoon,” per a media release from coach Brandon Clifford.
Gettelfinger, an Oakland signee, injured his wrist on a drive to the basket with 5 seconds left in the first half of Grace’s game Saturday afternoon at No. 3 Oak Hill Academy. Gettelfinger scored on the play, but crashed into the wall behind the basket.
“He had a plate inserted along with multiple screws, along with other procedures to insure his recovery,” Clifford wrote. “C.J. is currently recovering, and a timetable for possible return will not be discussed until a further date once his body has had a longer time to respond to the surgery.”
Gettelfinger helped lead Grace Christian to the 2018 Division II-A State Championship. He’s one of two Division I signees on the roster, the other being senior guard Grant Ledford (Chattanooga).
Grace (6-3) returns to action Thursday against Miami (Fla.) Norland in the Kreul Classic in Coral Springs, Fla.
“Our primary concerns right now are C.J.’s well-being and his recovery,” wrote Clifford. “We are praying for God to heal C.J. and to be with he and his family during this trying time for a young athlete.”
