Halls High School officially announced Scott Cummings as its newest football coach at noon Thursday, confirming the Twitter report from longtime Chattanooga Time Fress Press sportswriter/editor Stephen Hargis.
Cummings previously coached at Cleveland (2015-2018 seasons) but is more known in the Knoxville area for his 12 years as coach at Knoxville West, where he led the Rebels to 5A championship appearances in 2013 and 2014. West won the 2014 Class 5A BlueCross Bowl over Hillsboro, and Cummings departed for the Cleveland job a month later.

Cummings went 22-21 in his four seasons with the Blue Raiders and replaces his former Cleveland assistant coach, Jeremy Bosken, as head coach at Halls. Bosken resigned after one season at Halls to become the head coach at Boyd-Buchanan.
Cummings will begin his tenure in mid-January, per a release from Halls athletics director Meagan Booth. The players will meet with Cummings on Jan. 2 and a formal meet-and-greet will happen Jan. 7.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Cummings and his family to Halls. Coach Cummings has proven himself to be a top tier coach. The hiring team decided unanimously that he is the man we need heading the program to take it to the next level,” Booth wrote.
Halls reached the 5A playoffs this past season, winning their last two games to do so. The Red Devils nearly knocked off unbeaten David Crockett in overtime in the first round. Halls is a member of Region 2-5A, which houses newly minted 5A state champion Central, as well as Gibbs, South-Doyle, Carter, Sevier County and Seymour.
