OAK RIDGE — Derek Rang pushed the right buttons at halftime Thursday night.
Oak Ridge’s first-year football coach challenged his players at the break, and they responded with a 35-21 victory over Powell in a non-region game at Blankenship Field.
The Wildcats (2-0) trailed 7-0 after one quarter and scored 21 unanswered points, taking a 21-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.
“We felt like in the first half we weren’t playing up to our potential,” Rang said. “Obviously Powell was kind of controlling the tempo of the game. They were holding the ball. We got some timely takeaways in the first half, and then the second half, we said, ‘Let’s go out there and win this thing. It’s 7-7 now, let’s go out, play Oak Ridge football, play with that swagger we know we’re capable of, and let’s get a W.’ ”
