MARYVILLE — The William Blount football team gathered in front of the band before the school’s Alma Mater was played Friday night. Head coach Robert Reeves stood in the center of the scrum, smiling with his arms around his team.
In front of the Governors was a bell painted red and baby blue.
That bell will soon become navy blue after William Blount defeated Heritage 29-28 on Friday night.
The win for William Blount puts them at 3-0 for the first time since 2007. After going winless a season ago, the victory on Heirtage’s (1-2) field was even sweeter for Reeves.
“God works in mysterious ways and last year he put us in a tough situation,” Reeves said. “We still got a long year, but we are so much better than we were last year. Our kids, our families and our community, they feel the energy. It’s just exciting.”
