SEVIERVILLE — No playoff drama for Sevier County in Round 1. Just elation over the program’s first playoff win since 2017.
The Smoky Bears never trailed on Friday night, as they defeated Central, 51-20.
With the win, the Smoky Bears (10-1) will host 2021 Class 5A champion Powell (8-3) next week. The loss ends the Bobcats’ (5-6) season in the first round of the 5A TSSAA playoffs.
“We came out ready to play and it started off fast,” Sevier County head coach Todd Loveday said. “We’ve been practicing and playing like region champs the last three or four weeks and beat a good, athletic Central team right there that we’re pretty familiar with from the past.
“But our guys are hungry and they want to keep a special season moving on.”
