Todd Helton — no, not that Todd Helton — wanted to be a part of the Carter High School football staff so much back in 2018 that he accepted a minor non-coaching role doing the team’s video work.
“This community is such a strong, impactful group of people that I just got the burning urge to coach at Carter,” Helton said, referring to the days when he would watch the Hornets play while his nephew was on the field there.
Now, look at him.
Some six years later, the Rockford, Tenn., native accepted the head football coaching position Monday at Carter High School and was introduced as such Monday afternoon in front a group of players that he knows all too well.
