ALCOA — With a new school, and new athletics programs, milestones will come over time.
But the Eagleton College and Career Academy boys basketball team doesn’t have to wait any longer than its first season for a district tournament win and region tournament berth.
With Thursday’s 45-41 victory over Oneida in the first round of the District 2-2A Tournament at Alcoa, the Royals accomplished something that coach Scott West said not a lot of people predicted.
“Nobody would’ve picked that,” West said.
“I’ve got some tough, resilient guys that have gotten better all year. You’ve watched our scores, you know it, we had a bad showing against Alcoa the last time we played them, so I’m happy to get Round 3.
“I know they’re great, but hey, we’re region-bound baby. I’m so proud of these guys. Eagleton is here, and we ain’t going nowhere. And every one of those guys is back next year, so look out.”
