ALCOA – Alcoa’s Jahvin Carter had his normal game Monday night, and his supporting cast came through in big ways at crucial times.
The 6-2 senior guard and Mr. Basketball finalist scored 28 points – about his per-game average – and three other Tornadoes hit double-figure scoring during an 89-53 victory over visiting Chattanooga Tyner in a Class 2A state sectional game.
Alcoa (23-13) begins defense of its 2023 state championship on Thursday, March 14, in the quarterfinals against East Nashville (15-9) in Murfreesboro.
“I feel like a lot of teams come into their scout just thinking I’m the only one on the team,” said Carter, a Penn State signee and MVP of the 2023 state tournament. “We wouldn’t be this far if that was the case.
“All my guys step up. They always come through for me, so I come through for them. We’ve got a whole squad. We’ve got depth, and that’s just basically what it is.”
