The TSSAA unveiled their 2019 Mr. and Miss Basketball winners Tuesday during a ceremony at Middle Tennessee State’s Murphy Center.
The 5Star Preps Coverage Area had four finalists: two for Miss Basketball (Casey Collier – Webb; Jada Guinn, Oak Ridge) and two for Mr. Basketball (Grant Ledford – Grace; Ques Glover – Bearden).
Collier, though, was the lone winner from the area, as she was named Miss Basketball for Division II-A — receiving the award on the same court where her sister Katie plays for MTSU.
A finalist a year ago, 2018 State Tournament MVP and a Lipscomb University signee, Collier becomes the seventh player in Webb program history to receive the honor.
The others include: Glory Johnson (2007, 2008), Faith Dupree (2009), Marjorie Butler (2011) and Micah Scheetz (2014, 2016).
Collier helped Webb reach the Division II-A state quarterfinals; however, she badly injured an ankle in the first quarter of the game. Mr. and Miss Basketball awards are based upon regular-season performance only, and Collier led Webb to a league title with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals per game.
