LENOIR CITY – Kingston football coach Brian Pankey sees plenty of benefits for his defensive secondary during 7-on-7 passing scrimmages.
Not so much for his offensive skill players.
You won’t find many passing plays in Kingston’s offensive playbook with the shotgun Wing-T offense.
“We don’t throw it much,” Pankey said during Tuesday morning’s 7-on-7 passing scrimmage at Lenoir City. “About three times a game.”
While its quarterbacks threw the ball around Tuesday, Kingston’s Wing-T wasn’t really on display. It’s a run, run, run offense.
And Pankey and the Yellow Jackets have been effective with it through the years.
Last season, Kingston (8-4, 3-1 in Region 2-3A) had four players rush for 667 or more yards when the Yellow Jackets advanced to the second round of the state playoffs before losing at Gatlinburg-Pittman 48-7.
Two of those players are back, and two graduated in the spring.
