SEVIERVILLE — Sevier County trailed Powell by 14 points with less than three minutes remaining and were backed up on its own 3-yard line.
Seems bleak, right?
Not for the Smoky Bears.
Sevier County kept fighting and staged an improbable comeback, defeating Powell 25-24 on Friday night at home to remain undefeated and advance in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
“I think this is proof of what we always preach and what they always do,” Sevier County coach Todd Loveday said about his team’s comeback.
“It’s a four-quarter game, the scoreboard takes care of itself, and tonight is probably the best example we’ve seen of that.
“No panic. Regardless of the score the guys don’t panic, they just play. Play the next play and forget the last one, and it paid off.”
