It’s not hard to find a rivalry game in District 4-4A basketball.
Just ask the Bearden boys.
The top-seeded Bulldogs posted a 72-64 victory over rival and No. 4-seeded Farragut in the District 4-4A tournament semifinals Saturday night at Hardin Valley Academy.
In the second semifinal, No. 3-seeded Maryville defeated No. 2 West 69-64 for a berth in Tuesday’s 7:30 p.m. district championship at HVA.
Bearden (26-4) is ranked No. 4 in the state by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and West (20-5) is ranked No. 6.
Maryville (20-11) and Farragut (18-13) aren’t ranked, but both are big rivals with Bearden.
“This district’s very challenging,” Maryville coach Wes Lambert said. “A lot of great coaches, a lot of good teams, and for us to be able to play for a district championship Tuesday night, it says a lot about the guys with how challenging this district is.
“It’s always a good rivalry (with Bearden). It’s been a rivalry since I played in high school (at Maryville) and now coaching. Hopefully we can find a way to get it done.”
Here are some highlights of Saturday night’s District 4-4A semifinals:
