2020 5Star Preps Girls Soccer Teams
FIRST TEAM
Brinley Murphy, sophomore forward, Bearden
Murphy was the District 2-AAA Forward of the Year, leading Bearden (21-2-0) to district and Region 2-AAA titles and into the state semifinals. She led the Lady Bulldogs in goals (21) and assists (14) and is the 5Star Preps Co-Player of the Year with Maryville’s Kayla Barr.
Becca Roth, sophomore midfielder, Bearden
Roth was selected to the All-District 2-AAA first team as Bearden (21-2-0) won district and Region 2-AAA and reached the state semifinals. She finished the season with 15 goals and 11 assists.
Kayla Barr, sophomore forward, Maryville
Barr was the District 4-AAA and Region 2-AAA Player of the Year, leading the Lady Rebels (16-4-2) to district and region titles and a berth in the Class AAA state quarterfinals. She posted 29 goals and eight assists and is the 5Star Preps Co-Player of the Year with Bearden’s Brinley Murphy.
Ashlynn Taylor, senior forward, Maryville
Taylor was the Lady Rebels’ team captain as they won District 4-AAA and Region 2-AAA championship and advanced to the Class AAA state quarterfinals. She had the team-high 12 assists while posting five goals during the season.
Caroline Ekern, junior goalkeeper, Farragut
Ekern earned All-District 4-AAA and All-Region 2-AAA first-team honors as the Lady Admirals (13-6-3) posted runner-up finishes in district and region and advanced to the state sectionals before losing at Bearden. She posted eight clean sheets in and allowed only 24 goals in 22 games during the season.
Carissa Carvella, junior goalkeeper, West
Carvella was chosen to the All-District 2-AAA first team as the Lady Rebels (10-6-1) advanced to the District 2-AAA championship match before losing at Bearden and into the Region 2-AAA semifinals before lo0sing at Johnson City Science Hill, 1-0.
Claire Palya, junior midfielder, Hardin Valley Academy
Palya is a three-time All-District 4-AAA player and an All-Region 2-AAA player this year after helping the Lady Hawks (6-7-3) advance to the district semifinals before losing to Farragut. She posted 15 goals and had seven assists this season.
Lia Schroeder, junior midfielder, CAK
Schroeder was the Division II-A District 1 Midfielder of the Year as the Lady Warriors (13-4-1) won the district championship and advanced to the state quarterfinals. She had 18 goals and 12 assists and is a returning all-region and all-state player.
Emaleigh Marshburn, junior goalkeeper, Powell
Marshburn was the District 3-AAA Goalkeeper of the Year and an All-Region 2-AAA player, leading the Lady Panthers (13-4-1) to district regular-season and tournament titles. She posted 12 shutouts, had a .556 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
Lindsey Cook, senior forward, Greeneville
Cook was the District 1-AA Co-Offensive Player of the Year, the Region 1-AA MVP, an all-state selection and team captain as Greenville (18-5-0) won its second consecutive state championship. The ETSU signee had 28 goals and 11 assists for the season, including four goals and two assists at state.
Olivia Norris, junior defender, Greeneville
Norris was the District 1-AA Defensive Player of the Year and earned all-region and all-state honors, helping Greeneville (18-5-0) clinch its second straight state title. She anchored a defense that posted 12 shutouts and allowed only 15 goals all season – and just nine shots in three state tournament games.
Abby Wolfenbarger, senior midfielder, Seymour
Wolfenbarger was the District 2-AA Player of the Year and an All-Region 1-AA player as the Lady Eagles (13-4-0) advanced to the state tournament quarterfinals. The four-year starter had four goals and nine assists during the season.
Katlin Burger, senior forward, Heritage
Burger shared District 4-AAA Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors with Maryville’s Kayla Barr and was chosen to the All-Region 2-AAA second team, finishing her career at Heritage with more than 100 goals. She’s also a basketball standout for the Lady Mountaineers.
SECOND TEAM
Zneyah McLaughlin, senior forward, Bearden
McLaughlin was chosen to the All-District 2-AAA first team as the Lady Bulldogs (21-2-0) won district and Region 2-AAA titles on their way to the state semifinals. Also a standout basketball player, McLaughlin finished the soccer season with 16 goals and 12 assists.
Alayna Corbitt, junior defender, Bearden
Corbitt was the District 2-AAA Defender of the Year, leading Bearden (21-2-0) to district and Region 2-AAA titles and a berth in the state semifinals. She led a defense that allowed 12 goals and posted 13 shutouts in 23 games.
Megan Carroll, junior midfielder, Maryville
Carroll was selected to All-District 4-AAA and All-Region 2-AAA first teams after helping the Lady Rebels (16-4-2) claim district and region titles and a berth in the Class AAA state quarterfinals. She finished with 10 goals and five assists for the season.
Emmie Harville, junior midfielder, Farragut
Harville was selected to the All-District 4-AAA and All-Region 2-AAA teams as the Lady Admirals (13-6-3) finished second in the district and region and advanced to the state sectional round before losing to Bearden. She had eight goals – three for game-winners – and two assists.
Annabelle Ekern, sophomore midfielder, Farragut
Ekern was an All-District 4-AAA and All-Region 2-AAA selection, helping the Lady Admirals (13-6-3) to runner-up finishes in the district and region and a spot in the state sectional round, where they lost to Bearden. She had six goals, including a game-winner, and two assists for the season.
Jordan Blair, senior midfielder, Powell
Blair was MVP of District 3-AAA and was on the Region 2-AAA first team as the Lady Panthers (13-4-1) won district regular-season and tournament titles. She finished the season with eight goals and four assists.
Norah Jacomen, sophomore forward, Hardin Valley Academy
Jacomen was the District 4-AAA Co-Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time all-region player after helping the Lady Hawks (6-7-3) advance to the district semifinals before losing to Farragut. She finished the season with 10 goals and 16 assists.
Macy Vermillion, senior defender, Greeneville
Vermillion was chosen to All-District 1-AA and All-Region 1-AA first teams and was team captain team captain as Greeneville (18-5-0) won its second consecutive state championship. She posted 12 goals and 10 assists during the season.
Bonnie Lauderback, senior forward, Alcoa
Lauderback led the Lady Tornadoes (11-7-1) to district and region titles as they advanced to the Class A state semifinals. She posted 22 goals and had three assists during the season.
Katelyn Mattus, forward, Oak Ridge
Mattus was the District 3-AAA Attacker of the Year, helping the Lady Wildcats reach the district championship match and a spot in the Region 2-AAA semifinals.
Trysta Lane, sophomore midfielder, Seymour
Lane earned All-District 2-AA honors as Seymour (13-4) advanced to the state quarterfinals. The attacking midfielder posted eight goals and four assists in her second season as a starter.
Olivia Self, senior goalkeeper, Gibbs
Self allowed only six goals all season — posting 115 saves — as Gibbs (14-1-1) won the District 3-AA championship and Region 2-AA title before losing in the sectional round to Seymour.
Carolina Pittman, sophomore forward, Gibbs
Pittman scored 44 goals and added five assists, helping Gibbs (14-1-1) win the District 3-AA championship and Region 2-AA title before losing in the sectional round to Seymour.
