2021-22 BOYS BASKETBALL TEAMS
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jakobi Gillespie, Greeneville
Underclassman of the Year: Tyler Lee, Denaj Kimber, Taj Kimber
COACH OF THE YEAR: Brad Woolsey, Greeneville
Woolsey led Greeneville to a 31-6 mark this past season, also guiding the Greene Devils to a second consecutive state championship. Greeneville routed Jackson South Side 77-48 in the Class 3A state championship game, capping the Greene Devils’ season with a 17-game win streak. Woolsey’s squad won its nine 2022 postseason games by an average 31.6 points.
FIRST TEAM
B.J. Edwards (Catholic, senior, guard)
The Tennessee signee and Division II-AA Mr. Basketball finalist led the Irish this past season in scoring (20.3 points), rebounds (7.9), assists (5.3) and steals (3.2). He finished his career with more than 2,200 points, more than 800 rebounds and more than 500 assists.
Blue Cain (Catholic, junior, guard)
The Power 5 prospect leveled up his game big time for the 2021-22 season, averaging 19.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.7 assists. He led Catholic in 3-point percentage (37 percent) and scored a game-high 31 points in the 2022 Division II-AA title game.
Jakobi Gillespie (Greeneville, senior, guard)
The Belmont signee and 2022 Class AAA Mr. Basketball winner led Greeneville to a second consecutive state championship, earning state-tournament MVP honors along the way. He’s the 5Star Preps Player of the Year for the second year in a row, averaging 27.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
Elijah Bredwood (Bearden, senior, guard)
The Class 4A Mr. Basketball finalist helped Bearden reach the state championship game with 17.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 assists per game. Bredwood has signed to play for Lincoln Memorial University.
Micah Simpson (Morristown East, senior, guard)
Simpson broke numerous records on the basketball court and football field for Morristown East. He averaged 25.1 points, 4.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 steals his senior year for the Hurricanes. He is a UT-Martin football signee.
Dillon Atwell (Farragut, senior, guard)
Atwell helped Farragut win a District 4-4A Tournament title and get to 25 wins this past season with 18 points per game along with 5.2 rebounds, five assists and three steals. He shot 40 percent from the 3-point line.
Lukas Walls (Webb, junior, guard)
A Samford commitment, Walls overcame a midseason injury to help Webb finish 22-6 thanks to his 15.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He shot 62 percent from the floor and 40 percent on 3-point attempts.
SECOND TEAM
Darian Bailey (Bearden, senior, forward)
Bailey played a huge role in the Bulldogs reaching the Class 4A state championship game, contributing 11.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Reid Satterfield (Greeneville, senior, guard)
The Tusculum signee helped Greeneville repeat as state champions with 16.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He capped his prep career with a 6-for-12 showing from the 3-point line in the 2022 Class 3A state championship game.
Trey Morrow (Scott, senior, guard)
One of the state’s all-time scorers, Morrow finished with more than 3,000 career points. As a senior, the Bryan College signee averaged 30.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.
Jackson Garner (Clinton, senior, guard)
Garner averaged 24 points per game this past season in helping Clinton reach the Class 3A state tournament, and he leaves the program with school records in made 3s in a season (144), made 3s in a game (12), career 3s (408) and single-game scoring (55 points). He signed with Maryville College.
Will Biven (West, senior, guard)
An Anderson University signee, Biven is a repeat all-region performer who averaged 23 points per game as a senior while shooting 43 percent on his 3-point attempts.
Braden Ilic (Morristown East, senior, forward)
The East Tennessee State signee finished off his prep career with 14.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
Colby Raymer (Kingston, senior, guard)
Raymer went off his senior season, averaging 29.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 59 percent from the floor and 84 percent at the foul line. He recently signed with Centre College, is Kingston’s all-time leading scorer (1,822) and has the school’s single-game scoring record (54).
THIRD TEAM
Hayden Moseley (Bearden, senior, forward)
Putting on a memorable performance in the state-title game, Moseley finished off the 2021-22 season averaging 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
Jordan McCullum (Harriman, sophomore, forward)
The 6-foot-7 Division I product dominated the Class 1A ranks again, averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks per game. Harriman reached the 1A state sectionals.
Denaj Kimber (Fulton, sophomores, guard)
Denaj averaged 11.3 points per game and led Fulton in assists (4.2 per game) while helping the Falcons reached the Class 3A state semifinals. He shared in 5Star Preps Underclassman of the Year.
Taj Kimber (Fulton, sophomore, guard)
Taj pitched in 12.9 points per game with 4.4 rebounds while helping the Falcons reached the Class 3A state semifinals. He shared in 5Star Preps Underclassman of the Year.
Adjatay Dabbs (Greeneville, junior, guard)
Alongside prolific scorers Jakobi Gillespie and Reid Satterfield, Dabbs contributed 10.5 points per game while also pitching in three rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.
Jahvin Carter (Alcoa, sophomore, guard)
One of the area’s top underclassman talents, Carter showed spurts this season of being a possible future Division I signee. He averaged 21.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game for the Tornadoes, which reached the 2A state sectionals.
Tai Cates (South-Doyle, junior, guard):
A gifted and natural scorer of the basketball, Cates didn’t falter after transferring midseason from Alcoa to South-Doyle. Rather, he finished by averaging 25 points per game with eight rebounds and four assists per game.
Tyler Lee (Fulton, sophomore, forward)
The gifted forward helped Fulton reach the Class AAA state semifinals with 13.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He shot better than 80 percent from the free-throw line and shared in 5Star Preps Underclassman of the Year honors.
