BOYS FIRST TEAM
Keegan Smith, sr., Catholic
Runner of the Year story
The Colorado signee was the only male high school runner in the country to earn All-American honors at both the Footlocker and NIKE Nationals, where he placed fifth and six in the nation, respectively. Smith also picked up multiple impressive individual wins during the course of the season, including victories at the DII-AA state meet (14:59.16) and the KIL Championships (14:52.11). Finished the season as a consensus top-five runner nationally.
Evan Beeler, sr. Farragut
Beeler was Mr. Consistent for the Admirals in 2024 as he finished third in the 3A state meet (15:33.82), first in the Region 2-AAA meet (16:01.49) and third in the KIL Championships (15:22.85).
Radek Molchan, jr., Catholic
A key cog in a deep and talented Irish team that won the DII-AA state championship, Molcan figures to be at the front of the pack among area runners in 2025. He was seventh at the state meet with an impressive time of 15:43.99 and fourth at the KIL Championships in 15:24.90.
Gabe Allen, sr., Hardin Valley
Allen, with his seventh-place finish (15:50.48), helped the Hawks pull off a somewhat-surprising team state title in the Class AAA state meet in Hendersonville. He was also second (15:08.05) at KIL and fourth (16:12.34) at the Region 2 meet.
Garrett Hawkins, sr., Hardin Valley
Hawkins turned in a strong time of 15:40.35 at the TSSAA Class AAA state meet to finish fourth and help Hardin Valley (88 points) to the team championship over Nolensville (117) and Farragut (127).
Mason Greenhalgh, jr., Oak Ridge
Greenhalgh followed up a fifth-place showing (16:12.96) at the Region 2-AAA meet with a strong time of 15:57.88 to claim ninth place at the state AAA championships.
BOYS SECOND TEAM
Trey Bailey, soph., Greeneville
Another of the up-and-coming stars on the local XC circuit, Bailey posted impressive finishes throughout the 2024 season. The 10th grade standout won the DI A-AA Region 1 meet in 16:39.6 and was third in the DI A-AA state championships in 15:53.06.
Tanner Coggin, sr., Farragut
Another consistent, steady performer throughout the 2024 season, Coggin took 11th (16:02.19) at the 3A state championships, second (16:04.90) at regionals and sixth (15:36.62) at KIL.
Nicholas Burke, jr., West
Burke had a string of top-10 finishes for the Rebels at KIL (seventh, 15:38.82), regionals (seventh, 16:46.78) and the state 3A championships (10th, 15:58.52).
Josh Hunt, sr. Hardin Valley
Claimed All-State honors for his 15th-place finish (16:08.90) at the Class AAA state championships. Hunt was also third (16:05.82) at regionals and fifth (15:32.96) at KIL.
Cade Duncanson, soph., Catholic
Duncanson took 11th at the DII-AA state championships in 16:03.01. He also earned eighth place at the KIL meet with a time of 15:41.81.
BOYS THIRD TEAM
Rowen Moser-Bryan, sr., Karns
Highlights for Moser-Bryan included an all-state performance at the state AAA meet (13th/16:07.33), sixth place (16:26.53) at regionals and 11th place (16:11.94) at KIL.
Tommy Babbit, soph., Maryville
Babbit was yet another one of the strong underclassmen in the area who has a bright future. The 10th grader followed up a runner-up showing at regionals (15:44.81) with a 14th-place finish (16:07.99) at the state AAA championships.
Vance Laster, sr., Anderson County
Mavericks standout capped his sterling AC career with a ninth-place showing (16:20.92) at the state Class AA/A meet.
Reid Bannister, fresh., Catholic
Bannister crossed the finish line in 16:26.93 to record a 21st-place showing in the DII-AA state championships. He was also 10th at KIL in 15:56.75.
Tony Ortega, sr., Catholic
Among the highlights for the Irish veteran in 2024 was a ninth-place (15:48.77) clocking at the KIL meet and a 25th-place showing at the DII-AA state championships.
GIRLS FIRST TEAM
Calysta Garmer, jr., Webb
Runner of the Year story
Posted a winning time of 17:46.55 to claim medalist honors at the DII-AA state championships. Garmer posted four top-five finishes in 2024 and registered a PR of 17:33. Included in her top-five meets was a fourth-place showing (18:47.63) in the KIL Championships. Garmer led a 1-2-3 finish by the Lady Spartans, who won the state team title by a whopping 69 points. For Webb, it was the Lady Spartans’ 12th state team championship in program history.
Jazzlyn Garmer, jr., Webb
The twin sister of Calysta Garmer, Jazzlyn recorded an impressive PR of 17:16 and netted six top-10 finishes in meets in 2024. Garmer was second in the DII-AA state meet in 17:53.57. She ran 17:30.38 to take first place at the KIL Championships and ran sub-18 minutes in all but two races during the season.
Carolina Areheart, jr., Webb
Another key cog in Webb’s powerhouse lineup, Areheart had seven top-five finishes and three individual wins – including the Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville, Ky. She was third (17:57.36) at the DII-AA state meet and second (17:53.98) at the KIL Championships.
Emma Roberts, sr., Maryville
Lady Rebels star garnered four wins, including the Blount County Championships and the Region 3-AAA meet (18:29.92). At the state Class AAA meet, Roberts was 20th in 19:09.35.
Alexandra Vesser, soph., Hardin Valley
With Vesser leading the way, the Lady Hawks won the Region 2 team title, were second at KIL and fifth at the state Class AAA meet. She took medalist honors at the Region 2 meet in 18:57.80, was third at the KIL Championships in 18:29.08 and 19th at state 19:06.40.
Ava Moody, jr., Anderson County
Moody’s junior resume was indeed impressive for the Lady Mavericks as she won five meets and recorded seven top-five finishes during the season. She stormed to victories in both the Region 2-A/AA meet (19:47.32) and the Class A/AA state meet (18:17.36).
GIRLS SECOND TEAM
Drew Gerken, fresh., Catholic
Finished with the second-fastest time (18:20) among all freshman in the state this season. Gerken had six top-10 finishes, was eighth (19:03.62) at the DII-AA state meet and 10th (19:52.81) at KIL.
Avery Jo Thomas, jr., Heritage
Set a new school record in the 5,000 meters on her way to second-place finishes at the Blount County Championships and the Region 3-AAA meet (18:55.82). At the state Class AAA meet, Thomas was 27th in 19:31.71.
Ana Berkheimer, soph., Hardin Valley
Berkheimer, in her first year of cross country, was probably the most-improved runner in the area as the season unfolded. She had three top-10 finishes and was second (20:21.90) at regionals, ninth (19:45.36) at KIL and 28th (19:34.70) at the state meet.
Livi Ray, fresh., Catholic
The future is bright for Ray, who was ninth at the state DII-AA meet in 19:08.68 and fifth (19:10.84) at the KIL Championships. She finished in the top 10 in four meets and posted a PR of 18:43.
Arvella Nave, fresh., Elizabethton
Lady Cyclones ninth grader had a superlative season, finishing second (20:15.4) in the Region 1-A/AA meet and fourth (18:55.33) in the DI-A/AA meet.
GIRLS THIRD TEAM
Caitlin Daniels, fresh., Catholic
Another of the “most improved” runners in the area from the start to the end of the season, Daniels was sixth (19:19.68) at the KIL and 14th (19:31.08) at the DII-AA state meet. Her PR (19:19) improved by almost two minutes during the course of the season.
Campbell Asti, fresh., West
Asti had four top-10 finishes in meets, including fourth in Region 2 (20:36.73) and eighth (19:42.40) at KIL. She had the fifth fastest time among freshmen at the 3A state meet, where she claimed 45th place in 20:09.19.
Ariana Vargas, soph., Webb
Vargas had a PR of 19:15 this season on her way to finishing seventh (19:32.17) at KIL and 15th (19:38.66) at the state DII-AA meet.
Dylan Job, jr., Oak Ridge
Season highlights for Job included an individual win at The Mounds and a 20th-place showing at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala. She posted an impressive PR of 18:16.
Zoi Lecours, soph., Farragut
Lecours ran 20:27.73 to place third at the Region 2-AAA meet. She also claimed 11th place at the KIL Championships in 20:01.75.
