CORRYTON – The regular-season baseball series between Gibbs and Pigeon Forge did not disappoint.
On Monday, host Pigeon Forge rode a 19-strikeout performance by sophomore lefty and Tennessee commitment Dylan Loy to a 2-0 victory. Loy pitched all seven innings and used just 91 pitches to do his damage. He also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a do-ahead RBI double, moving Pigeon Forge to 19-1 (7-0 District 3-AA).
But Gibbs answered back Tuesday night, jumping to a five-run lead after two innings and claiming a 7-4 victory to pull even in the district standings.
Sophomore standout Braden Graves drove in two runs on a home run, scored two runs and pitched the three innings, allowing just one hit but two earned runs. Brayden Taylor slapped a home run, as well, for the Eagles (17-4, 7-1). Gibbs outfielder Tyson Merritt had a 2-for-3 day, batting ninth.
Loy went 2 for 3 for Pigeon Forge (19-2, 7-1).
