Colorado commit Keegan Smith and the Knoxville Catholic boys cross-country team took centerstage Saturday morning in the 2024 KIL Cross Country Championships, as did junior Jazzlyn Garmer and the Webb School of Knoxville girls.
A senior, Smith set the individual winning pace with a winning time of 14:52.11, finishing 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Gabe Allen of Hardin Valley Academy. Evan Beeler (Farragut) took third at 15:22.85.
Smith’s teammate Radek Molchan was fourth (15:24.90), helping the Fighting Irish finish first overall at 32 points. HVA was second with 58 and Farragut third at 63.
As for Garmer and Webb, she took first place individually at 17:30.38 and junior teammate Carolina Areheart was second (17:53.90). HVA’s Alexandra Vesser claimed third at 18:29.09.
Calysta Garmer, also a junior, placed fourth for Webb at 18:47.63, and three top-four finishers for the Lady Spartans gave them the KIL Championship win at 29 points. HVA (55) and Catholic (57) finished second and third, respectively.
