South-Doyle was without one of its top skill players Thursday morning, but that didn’t slow down the Cherokees during 7-on-7 scrimmages at Bearden.
Senior receiver/safety Santana Curtis visited Columbia and Yale of the Ivy League as his recruiting heats up.
South-Doyle coach Clark Duncan took a call from Curtis’ father in New York after Thursday’s scrimmages and was told the latest recruiting news.
Santana has offers from Yale, Cornell, Connecticut, and Tennessee Tech. More could come soon.
“Harvard is telling him if he makes a 26 on the ACT this Saturday, he’s got a full offer,” Duncan said. “He’s got a 25 (on the ACT) right now.”
Curtis is just one reason South-Doyle looks like a deep playoff contender in Class 5A this fall.
“(Curtis) really makes us special on both sides of the ball,” Duncan said.
Here are some takeaways from Thursday’s 7-on-7 scrimmages at Bearden with South-Doyle and William Blount (lightning cut the scrimmages short by about 30 minutes):
