Karns is breaking in a new quarterback, putting its best athlete behind center.
Christian Academy of Knoxville has a three-way quarterback race, and it probably won’t be decided until deeper in preseason camp.
Both teams put their quarterbacks to the tests Tuesday morning when Karns played host to CAK in a 7-on-7 scrimmage lasting about two hours.
“I saw a lot of good stuff today from our young guys,” CAK coach Travis Mozingo said. “I saw some guys stepping up and making plays. On the whole, I’m really pleased. I like the way the last couple of hours went.”
Karns coach Brad Taylor missed the scrimmage with a stomach bug, so the Beavers’ assistants took control.
“It’s a process,” Karns wide receivers coach Nicky Frizen said. “We’re one of those teams that’s going to come out and work every day. We know the season is a 10-game process, a 10-game journey, so we’re looking to get better every day.”
Frizen was the starting quarterback at Bearden in 2011 and 2012 when Taylor was head coach of the Bulldogs.
