MURFREESBORO — No team titles won Wednesday by Division II-A nor Division II-AA area teams.
But so so many great individual and relay finishes.
Here’s what happened on Wednesday in the TSSAA Division II State Meet at MTSU.
DIVISION II-A GIRLS
Brianna Baker, a senior at Grace, and Antiya McAlister, a senior at CAK, showed out at state, as anticipated.
Baker won the 100 hurdles in 14.66 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 44.50 seconds. She placed third in the long jump at 17-0.
This all just days after she placed second in the Division II-A state pentathlon.
McAlister won the 200 dash in 25.08 seconds and then grabbed second in the 100 with a 12.16-second mark.
The CAK girls won the 4 x 200 in 1:43.73.
A couple of young promising athletes, Lilyana Helton and Maddie Braden, made the podium.
Helton, a sophomore at Concord Christian, finished third (10-0) in the pole vault.
Braden, an eighth-grader at CAK, was third (58.54) in the 400 dash.
DIVISION II-AA GIRLS
What a day Wednesday was for Catholic and Webb athletes.
Catholic freshman Chloe Truss might have had the best day of them all, though.
She won the 100 dash (12.00 seconds), the 200 dash (24.90) and the 400 dash (56.95).
Lady Irish relay teams finished second in the 4 x 200 (1:45.68) and third in the 4 x 400 (4:06.49).
In the field events, Catholic sophomore Maggie Frana finished second in the state discus with a mark of 104-6.
Meanwhile, Webb’s youthful standouts performed well, as well.
Lennox Langham, a sophomore at Webb, won the triple jump (39-1) and was second in the long (18-4.5)
Webb freshman Carolina Areheart won the 1600 run in 5:06.45.
And the Garmers placed well in the 800 — Jazzlyn (second, 2:19.94) and Calysta (third, 2:20.90). Both are freshmen.
Webb’s relay team won the 4 x 800 in 9:23.37.
DIVISION II-A BOYS
Silas Fulford, a sophomore at CAK, was the only Division II-A area boys athlete to win a state championship. He won the pole vault at 13-0.
His teammates Austin Delp and Joshua Cross each had a third-place finish in the shot put and 1600 run, respectively.
Delp’s mark was 43-10 in the shot put while Cross finished the 1600 in 4:30.88.
Lakeway Christian junior Palmer McGuffin took second in the 110 hurdles in 15.19 seconds.
DIVISION II-AA BOYS
As expected, Knoxville Catholic standout distance runner Keegan Smith did Keegan Smith things — finishing like a boss down the stretch to take the gold in both the 1600 and 3200 runs.
The sophomore won the 1600 in 4:17.18 and the 3200 in 9:12.35.
Webb School of Knoxville junior Michael Conley was third in the long jump at 22-6.25.
