CLINTON – Comebacks and fantastic finishes have been the norm for Powell against Anderson County the past couple of years.
So given recent history, the Panthers weren’t about to push the panic button when the Mavericks jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead Friday in the 2022 high school football season opener for both teams.
Then things took an even more ominous turn for the defending state Class 5A champions when star senior quarterback Jordyn Potts suffered an injury late in the first quarter.
Potts eventually went to the sidelines shortly later with what appeared to be some time of shoulder injury.
With Potts out of action for the final three quarters, Anderson County rolled to a methodical 48-14 win over the Panthers.
