MURFREESBORO — The Austin-East boys’ track & field team needed one final relay win Friday night to secure a team title.
But the Roadrunners came up 5 seconds shy.
Pearl-Cohn took the Division I – Small Class team title with 74 points while Austin-East wound up with 68.5.
The Roadrunners trailed by 1.5 points heading into the night’s final event — the 4 x 400. Austin-East claimed third in 3:27.97. Pearl-Cohn won the 4 x 400 in 3:22.30.
The Roadrunners won the previous three relay events: the 4 x 100 (41.62), 4 x 200 (1:28.69) and 4 x 800 (8:27.40). Individually, though, A-E had one athlete finish in the top two of an event. Kiyonate Warren took second in the 300 hurdles in 38.18.
Other area male athletes who placed in the top two of an event were: Kyle Teague, Emmerson Fulton and Seth Links.
Teague, a senior at Northview Academy, won the high jump at 6-4. Fulton won Gatlinburg-Pittman a few points with his win in the 800 at 1:59.05.
Jinks, a junior at L&N STEM, placed second in the 1600 at 4:36.11.
GIRLS – DIVISION 1 SMALL CLASS
Area teams didn’t fare well in the team rankings, but Alcoa’s Jataya Wilson won the shot put at 40-1.25. Blake Blakemore of Austin-East was second in the 200 at 25.07.
And the Austin-East girls won the 4 x 100 at 48.90
UNIFIED TRACK & FIELD COMPETITION
Congratulations to Hardin Valley Academy for its win in the Unified Track & Field competition. The Hawks finished with 56 points. Gibbs took third at 34.
Highlight performers include Clytavious Barnes of Gibbs winning the Boys 100 in 12.16. Lynndeeria Drew of Hardin Valley winning the girls long jump at 13-0.
HVA’s Cade Huff won the boys’ long jump at 19-1. Luke Defur won mixed shot put at 47-4.
HVA won the mixed 4 x 100 in 52.22.
