It finally happened.
Bearden senior guard Ques Glover, a Mr. Basketball finalist who led the Bulldogs to the 2019 Class AAA state championship, finally picked up his first Division I Power 5 Conference offer.
And it was a biggie. And it led to his commitment.
On Monday morning, the University of Florida offered the 6-foot Glover, a 2,000-point career scorer who held more than 20 scholarships — mostly from mid-major schools like Samford and Florida International.
He committed Monday afternoon via Twitter.
Shortly after Glover and his teammates celebrated their state title in a school-wide ceremony the afternoon of Friday, March 29, Glover changed to workout clothes. That’s when Florida assistant Al Pinkins, a former Vols assistant coach, walked in.
He watched Glover, the state tournament MVP, for roughly an hour. Glover averaged 21.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He shot 44.3 percent from the 3-point line and 85.3 percent from the foul line. He was the Arby’s Classic, District 4-AAA and Region 2-AAA MVP.
Glover joins Lee Humphrey as local standouts who will have played for the Gators. Humphrey, a 2003 Class AAA Mr. Basketball winner from Maryville, helped lead Florida to two national championships (2006-07).
