Jakhyia Davis won top honors Monday night thanks to a group effort by the Bearden girls’ basketball team.
Davis was selected MVP after the No. 1-seeded Lady Bulldogs posted a 41-34 victory over No. 2 Maryville in the District 4-AAA tournament championship at Bearden.
The 6-foot-2 senior post player and ETSU signee had six points and 12 rebounds as Bearden (27-2) broke the 20-game winning streak of Maryville (26-4).
“I’m very excited,” Davis said. “It was just tough but I’m glad we pulled it out. This is my last season and I’m just glad we got the win.”
