Cade Russell and Mitchell Deeson have been the two leaders for the Christian Academy of Knoxville boys’ golf team all season. So, naturally, they delivered when the Warriors needed them most.
Russell, a Tennessee golf commitment, shot 3-under 69 Wednesday at the Division II-East region tournament at Bear Trace – Harrison Bay to earn medalist honors. Deeson carded a 71, as the Warriors won the team region title and reserved their spot in the Division II State Tournament (Oct. 1-2 at WillowBrook in Manchester, Tenn.)
CAK shot 5-over 293. Aaron Frazer (76) and Kaleb Wilson (77) rounded out the team scoring. Boyd-Buchanan (299) was the other boys’ team to qualify for state.
Webb (327) finished third, though its Eli Mayes shot 73 to qualify as an individual. Grace Christian finished fourth at 328.
Not to be outdone by its boys’ counterparts, the CAK girls’ golf team qualified for state, as well.
The Lady Warriors finished second in the region tournament Wednesday thanks to Allie Cooper’s 85 and Kennedy Smith’s 86.
That was good enough for a 27-over 171, which was 14 shots off the winning pace of Boyd-Buchanan.
Boyd’s Lydia Campbell was medalist at 76. Grace Christian finished third at 186 and Webb fourth at 204.
Grace Christian’s Virginia Pirkle snagged a state-tournament spot with a 92.
