Seven-foot junior Handje Tamba was the difference Thursday as Catholic took down visiting Bearden 60-48 in a matchup of two of the top teams on the 5Star Preps coverage map.
Tamba scored a career-high 22 points and was a force all over the floor as the defending Division II-AA state champion Irish improved to 5-1 and handed the 3A Bulldogs (9-1) their first loss.
“He (Tamba) may be the most improved big man in the state,” said Catholic coach Mike Hutchens.
Tamba, who has an offer from Tennessee among others, came up big in all categories for Catholic.
