Standout Powell running back Connor Wheeler wasn’t even sure earlier in the week if would be able to play Thursday against Clinton.
Yep he played, and yep Wheeler was his customary terrific self as the Panthers rolled past the Dragons 45-27 in a non-region matchup of two Class 5A teams at Powell.
“I actually missed practice earlier in the week and didn’t come back until yesterday (Wednesday),” said Wheeler.
“I had food poisoning or something.”
Wheeler shrugged off his sickness as the 5-foot-9, 175-pound junior went over 100 yards on the ground for the fifth consecutive week this season as Powell improved to 3-2.
Clinton falls to 2-3.
Wheeler rushed for 184 yards on 24 attempts and scored on touchdown runs of 5, 9 and 4 yards.
Here are the highlights from the Panthers’ big win.
