At some point in his prep baseball career, Cole Draper will likely take the reins of the starting shortstop position for Farragut High School, most likely when junior Lukas Buckner graduates.
Buckner has the position on lockdown. After all, he’s a Central Florida commit, the team’s leading hitter and the reigning 5Star Preps Offensive Player of the Year.
So for now, Draper will remain a reliever.
And the sophomore filled that pitching role in heroic fashion Saturday, helping Farragut eliminate Bearden, 10-2, in the District 4-4A Tournament Loser’s Bracket Finals.
Draper entered the contest in the fifth inning in an unsavory position — with Farragut leading 4-1 and Bearden threatening with the bases loaded and no outs.
