Former Farragut High School baseball star Philip Pfeifer was recalled to Class AAA on Wednesday.
A valuable left-handed relief pitcher for the Atlanta Braves organization, the 26-year-old had a 2.51 ERA in 10 appearances for the Class AA Mississippi Braves, striking out 15 and walking 11. He had already logged 25 strikeouts in 18 appearances earlier this season for the Class AAA Gwinnett Stripers before his recall.
This is Pfeifer’s fourth season in the minors. Both he and Chicago White Sox utility player and fan favorite Nicky Delmonico starred for the Farragut Admirals from 2008-11, winning four state titles in a row and becoming All-Americans with Team USA experience to boot.
They were both featured in Sports Illustrated while in high school and essentially deemed two of the next big things in baseball. Delmonico went pro out of high school. Pfeifer headed to Vanderbilt.
