Grace Christian offensive lineman Wes Dorsey announced on Twitter on Wednesday night that he had verbally committed to Western Kentucky University.
Dorsey is a 6-foot-6, 250-pound offensive tackle and defensive end at Grace Christian, where he will be a senior this upcoming season. He chose the Hilltoppers over Central Michigan but also gave consideration to Austin Peay and Chattanooga, he said.
“I really like (WKU head coach Mike) Sanford and (offensive line) Coach (T.J.) Woods,” Dorsey said via text message. When I went up there for camp and junior day I fell in love with the campus and their facilities.
“They also have the majors that I would like to study. I would like to go into construction and own my own business when I get done with school. So I considered Civil Engineering, or Business Management, and minor in construction management.”
Dorsey helped lead Grace to the second round of the Division II-AA playoffs last season. (Editor’s Note: His highlight film is posted below.)
The WKU staff wants to use him as an offensive lineman, and Dorsey is preparing himself for the jump to college ball. Having Mark Bradley on the staff again this season at Grace Christian will only continue to help Dorsey. Bradley coached at Tennessee as an assistant for nine seasons and then coached former Tennessee lineman Brett Kendrick while serving as an assistant at CAK — as well as current Tennessee star lineman Trey Smith while serving as an assistant coach at University School of Jackson.
“There is always room for improvement,” Dorsey said. “But I feel that I need to improve on my footwork and get more experience overall.”
