While the TSSAA Division I Small Class State Tournament gets underway Tuesday, teams in the Large Class vied for spots Monday f0r their state tournament next week.
Locally, the Farragut Admirals golf team won both the boys’ and girls’ Region 2 Large Class region tournament at WindRiver in Lenoir City.
Illinois commit Lexanne Halama, the reigning 5Star Preps Girls Player of the Year, shot a tournament-best, 4-over 76 to earn individual medalist and lead the Farragut girls to a 10-over-par 154 total. Vivian Wang rounded out the Lady Admirals’ scoring with a 78. Lindsay Ott had an 84. Farragut’s number bested runner-up Bearden by 19.
The Farragut boys cruised to a 30-stroke victory, paced by Tennessee commitment Lance Simpson’s and Owen Queener’s rounds of 72. The Admirals shot 7-over 295. Connor Price (73) and Brady Harville (78) helped comprise that total. A.J. Rinehart shot 79.
Bearden freshman Jaden Morrell won boys’ medalist with a 68. He, West’s Carson Kammann (71) and Campbell County’s David Bates (72) will advance to the state tournament with the Farragut boys’ team next week at WillowBrook in Manchester, Tenn.
Girls individuals advancing to state with the Farragut girls’ team will be: Madilyn Newman (HVA) 78, Maya Hira (Bearden) and Madison Atchley (Maryville) 83.

In the Region 1 Large Class in upper East Tennessee, the Dobyns-Bennett boys’ team captured the region title at Ridgefields.
Taylor Kilgore’s round of 70 led the way for D-B, which also got a 72 from Zac Fletcher. Science Hill finished second at 300 and Greeneville third at 309.
Douglas Fezell led Greeneville with a 73 while Alex Broyles (77) and Gavin Sells (77) also broke 80. Morristown East’s Sawyer Spoone, playing as an individual shot 74. Sevier County’s Tyler Guilliams carded a 73.
Volunteer’s Jon Wes Lovelace was medalist with a round of 69. He, Science Hill’s John Cheek (72) and Tennessee High’s Jack Tickle (72) advance to state with the D-B team.
On the girls’ side, Tennessee High captured the Region 1 crown with a team score of 150 thanks to Noelia Adkins (74) and Madeline Simcox (76). That was good enough for a four-shot victory over Sullivan South.
Going to state with the Tennessee High girls will be the following individuals: Sullivan South’s Kara Carter (71), Isabella van Der Biest (71) and Science Hill’s Grace Smith (81).
