When the University of Virginia offered Derrell Bailey a football scholarship on Feb. 4, he was 30 minutes from tipping off a basketball game against visiting Jellico. A coach from the Virginia staff face-timed him on his phone and gave the good news.
That moment not only marked the first offer for the Greenback High School football standout — it triggered an impending avalanche of recruiting interest.
